SuperLunchNotes: Polar Vortex Edition

POLAR VORTEX! SNOW SQUALL!! THUNDER SNOW!!! As much of the country is plunged into the coldest winter in recent history, I thought it would help pass the stay-indoors-at-all-costs time to share some of my favorite chilly-themed lunch notes.

Living in the northeast, we get more than our fair share of snow days. We’ve even had a couple of school closings due to extreme cold and/or wind (like this week). But mostly we still cart our kids off to school a) so that they don’t end up attending classes until the fourth of July, and b) so the teachers can get on with enjoying their all-too-brief summers.

I’ve pulled together some of the lunch notes I’ve done for my son over the years — on days when he needs to bundle up a little tighter and hopefully not lose his thirteenth pair of gloves.

There are lots of cool ways to motivate or inspire your kids, whether it’s with a ice-covered superhero, cold-hearted villain, or a rando Pokémon smiling ice cream cone.

Sure this works for the Christmas holidays, but it’s also a nifty winter birthday note!

Icy animated characters abound, and are helpful in encouraging your child to share, spell, or just CTFD.

While not technically a winter tale, I never pass up an opportunity to share And Tango Makes Three. Also, most penguins dig the cold.

And finally, we wouldn’t be parents if we didn’t offer one final bit of advice as we shovel them out the door.

Whether you’re sending your multi-layered kids off to school, or looking for snow day craft activities, I hope these inspire you to make their lunches a little more chill and put a warm smile on their faces.
