‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ SuperLunchNotes… Now for Sale!

December 15, 2015 | By Brent Almond | DESIGN STUFF, POP CULTURE

STAR WARS WEEK IS FINALLY HERE!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will finally debut this Friday in the U.S., and our family is as giddy as a Gungan! And I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to eat lunch! And of course BUY SOME OF MY NEW STAR WARS SUPERLUNCHNOTES….

Star Wars: The Force Awakens SuperLunchNotes

I polled the awesomest poeple in the galaxy (my readers!) on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, then created brand new notes based on the top requests. All characters appear in The Force Awakens, except Yoda. He’s was my son’s special request and that trumps everything. In addition to the Jedi Master, you also voted to see new characters BB-8, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma and Rey, as well as everyone’s favorite sidekick, Chewbacca.

So kick it into hyperdrive and head over to my Etsy shop, where you can buy the whole batch of six, or purchase individual pages of each.

Back to School With SuperLunchNotes… Now for Sale!

August 19, 2015 | By Brent Almond | DESIGN STUFF

Ever since I started making superhero notes for my son’s lunch, one of the most common questions I’ve gotten — just behind “When do you find the time?” — is “Where can I buy some?”

The answer to the first question is “There’s always time to doodle superheroes!” The answer to the second is “My new Etsy shop!”

Oh Christmas Tees! Oh Christmas Tees!

November 26, 2013 | By Brent Almond | DESIGN STUFF

A couple of years ago I had a momentary lapse of seasonal sense and embarked on producing a daily blog post/doodle for the first 25 days of December. While I was proud of the final result, it was way too much during a time of year already known for a whole lot of way too much.

However, I’ve re-purposed a couple of my favorites of those doodles into tee shirts that are now available in the Designer Daddy Store! Please buy lots and lots (or one) of them. Great for white elephant gifts, stocking stuffers, baby showers and long winter’s naps. The 3XLs also make nice tree skirts.

Click on each image below to be taken directly to that page in the store.

My Two Daddies (Can Beat Up Your One) – The Single!

May 22, 2013 | By Brent Almond | DAD STUFF

This post has been a long time in the making, but I’m super stoked to finally introduce “My Two Daddies (Can Beat Up Your One)” — the single, the finished product, the labor of love. And oh yeah, the fundraiser…

Y’see, I had such a blast writing, performing and recording this — yet I know it’s not going Platinum or winning any Grammies (CMA award, maybe?). It’s pretty much a vanity project wrapped in a love letter to my son (with a smidge of me working through my insecurities as a father). But I figured while I’m sharing it with the universe, I’d try to raise some money for a good cause. And I’ve found no better cause that supports other families with Two Daddies (or Two Mommies) than Family Equality Council.

But before I prattle on too much about my own benevolence… THE SONG!

I originally wrote the lyrics as part of a copywriting workshop. I was attending a design conference in the Texas hill country, and our assignment was to write a country song using our own life as the subject. JJ was about 18 months old at the time, and already I was pondering worrying what trials he might face as the adopted son of two gay men. I pictured our little fella getting picked on by some mustachioed, homophobic toddler (I know, my imagination runneth over) and in response, JJ puffs out his chest, chubby fists on his be-daipered hips, the theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly playing in the background…

…and thus was born “My Two Daddies” — the mock battle cry of a picked-on kid who’s unequivocally proud of who he is, where he comes from, and that he’s dang lucky to have “the two best daddies that you’ve ever seen.”

NOW ABOUT THAT FUNDRAISING BIT…
All the profits from song sales will go to Family Equality Council, so please mosey over to iTunes or Amazon and pony up your 99 cents. Our family (and others like ours) sure appreciates your contribution!

And if you’re feeling a might more generous, please consider making a donation directly to my fundraising page at Family Equality Council, where I’ll be tracking donations made from song sales as well as what’s contributed on the fundraising page. Since the month of June includes both Father’s Day and LGBT Pride celebrations (for many cities/states), my goal is to raise $500 by the end of the month.  But I’d be pleased as punch to raise and/or extend that… READ FULL ARTICLE >>

Happy Halloweenie!

October 31, 2012 | By Brent Almond | DESIGN STUFF

This photo was sent to me by awesome moms Holly and Carrie of their boys Zeke and David, sporting their Halloweenie tee shirts in front of a pumpkin patch. Way to get into the spirit, and thanks for being such great fans!

And oh yeah, you can get these shirts (plus a bushel more styles) at the Designer Daddy Store. Have a Happy, Happenin’ Halloween everyone!

What’s the Buzz? A New Halloweenie Tee!

October 24, 2012 | By Brent Almond | DESIGN STUFF

I had originally intended* to do a whole new line of Halloweenie’s tee shirts for the DD Store, but once again reality bit a big, bloody chunk out of my grand scheme. However, I did manage to squeeze out one little doozie of a doodle just in time for the horrific holiday…**

Beware the ZomBee!

The Undead Insect! The Eater of Brainzzz! BEElzebub!

Below are a couple of different shirt styles, some come with “ZomBee” and some without, each in several colors. There are short and long sleeve tees for kids and adults, and even onesies! Please buy many, many of these — tell your friends, create some buzz — all proceeds go to the JJ College Fund!

And of course, all your old favorites are still available, too! So flit on over to the store and stock your hive with unBeelievably awesome… Sorry, I got out of hand with the bee puns. Just please buy my shirts. Thank you.

*It’s amazing how many of my posts these days start, “I had originally intended to…” or a variation on the theme.

**Also excellent attire while viewing The Walking Dead, currently on AMC.

What’s in store for Designer Daddy?

September 24, 2011 | By Brent Almond | DESIGN STUFF

A store, that’s what!

Pop on over to the brand spanking-new Designer Daddy Store where you can buy tee shirts featuring original Designer Daddy designs — just in time for hay-riding, trick-or-treating, and other autumnal shenanigans. I’ve got tees for grown-ups and kiddos sporting three of my Halloweenie Doodles.

I’ll be adding a couple more designs in the next few weeks, so be sure and let me know if you have a particular one you want to see.

Oh, and send me a pic of you or your progeny sporting one of the shirts and I’ll post it here on Halloween!

This Little Piggy

August 8, 2011 | By Brent Almond | DESIGN STUFF

I started doing “This Little Piggy” with JJ in the tub recently (not sure why I just now started) but he loves it — but not the “Weee! Weee! Weee!” part. It’s all the other noises I’ve created for the other Piggies that crack him up. Piggy going to market? I make “La, la la” skipping-to-market noises. The Piggy eating roast beef (what’s that weirdness all about…)? Yummy noises. The other two loser toes (Stayed Home Piggy and Had None Piggy) they get short little “wah” noises. It just cracks him the hell up. But God forbid I should do one foot and not the other. Talk about squealing…

Anyhoo, it reminded me of this promo postcard I did in ’07 (Year of the Pig, natch) which I also turned into a note card (along with 4 other porcine-themed illustrations). Click to enlarge the images, and see if you can count all the pig-related puns. They are legion.

(PS: Hit me up if you want to buy any note cards. Cards are $15 for a box of 10 — 2 each of 5 styles, plus matching envelopes! Cards are blank inside and printed on heavy, uncoated stock.)
