Up with paper!

March 18, 2011 | By Brent Almond | MAKING MEMORIES, THINGS DAD DIGS

Musical cards are just about one of the most annoying things in the world. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but they are pretty high on my list. More often than not they are completely unoriginal in both design and song choice.

However Up With Paper, who have been creating fun and fabulous dimensional cards for over 30 years, debuted their Sight ‘n Sound line in January. These “everyday” cards are anything but, combining great illustrations, intricate pop-ups and original sound effects to create mini multimedia masterpieces. The sounds are what take these to the next level of originality, with idling motorcycles, booping robots, or stripper music replacing the typical schlocky pop song found in most other musical cards.

Here are a couple more of my faves, but check out Up With Paper’s site to see the full line, hear the fun sound effects, and find a store near you where their cards are sold. And by the way, my birthday is June 12.
