Defying Hail Hydra

April 15, 2014 | By Brent Almond | QUICKPIC

I finally saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier last weekend, but cut me some slack, because babysitters are expensive! I also finally saw Wicked a few weeks ago. Cut me some slack again, because… well, I don’t deserve any for that one. I’m a bad, bad gay.

After seeing the former, the “Hail Hydra” meme finally made sense. (Who knew Garry Shandling could get any creepier?) And then I remembered the latter, and realized that no one (that I could find) had done this…

Happy Tuesday. You’re welcome.

And oh yeah, Hail Hydra.

March 13, 2014 | By Brent Almond | QUICKPIC, RASPBERRIES

Enough has already been written about this whole “Ban Bossy” business, so I’m going to suggest an alternative:

A Little Face Time

February 7, 2014 | By Brent Almond | QUICKPIC

It’s hard to believe a week ago I was in New Orleans beginning an intensive three days of networking with other dads, talking about the role of dads, learning how to be a better dad and getting some face time with my online dad pals. But now I’m back to life, back to reality. And putting all these things that I learned into practice. The hard part.

Not so hard? Having breakfast the first morning back with my reason for being a dad. Sitting there listening to him, watching him, just enjoying the moment and basking in his early morning scruffiness. Some face time, if you will. If anything, my weekend away taught me anew how to be present with my son.

Yes, I realize for “just being present” I sure took a lot of photos; but as you can see, he didn’t really notice until several shots in.

Caption The Batman!

October 31, 2013 | By Brent Almond | QUICKPIC, SCRAPBOOKING

A big Bat-Thanks to everyone who submitted a caption! Here’s my favorite, from Andy Miller, co-founder of The Handsome Father and dad to a similarly-aged son. He pretty much wins for being the most accurate.

Arrrgh! Pirate Day is Herrrre!

September 19, 2013 | By Brent Almond | BABY LIKE, QUICKPIC

I’ve been saving these photos fer a very special day, mateys… In case you don’t have the internet (and I’m hoping you do, so’s you can read this here post) today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day!

Here’s the whole fam, in full-ish pirate regalia.

Yup, that there’s Papa, getting in on the pirate action at a friend’s birthday (aboard the highly cheesy, but recommended Urban Pirates!). His appearances here on the blog are too infrequent, so he’s getting another shout out in the form of one of JJ’s favorite books, and a rare Papa-centric tome…

PiratePapaCover

I Love My Pirate Papa, by Laura Leuck
Amazon, $12.09 harcover, $6.29 softcover, ages 4-8

JJ loves this book because it’s about pirates, and talks about adventures and treasure and burping. I love it because of the awesome and whimsical illustrations by Kyle M. Stone. But Papa loves this book because it’s all about a little boy and his loving Papa.

QuickPic: The Thrills of Summer

July 24, 2013 | By Brent Almond | QUICKPIC, SCRAPBOOKING

I’m sorting through my thoughts about our recent trip to visit JJ’s birthparents. It’s taking me longer than I’d planned… In the meantime, please enjoy this montage of JJ performing what appears to be a one-man “Thriller” flash mob at a fountain in downtown Salt Lake City.

Ah, the thrills of summer!

QuickPic: Snow Day

March 14, 2013 | By Brent Almond | QUICKPIC, SCRAPBOOKING

As spring is finally starting to creep in, I thought I’d share these few (and rare, non-Instagram) photos of JJ watching Papa shovel snow from a couple weeks ago.

I’m not sure why I think posting photos on my blog is filler — I could look at these all day…

Silly Hat Day: A Story in Pictures

March 1, 2013 | By Brent Almond | QUICKPIC, SCRAPBOOKING

On a cold, rainy day not too long ago, I had a brain fart of forethought, gathered all the hats from all over the house, and declared it henceforth be known as (cue trumpets)… Silly Hat Day!

In all honesty, I needed a break from playing superheroes (or coloring them, or watching them on TV). And it actually turned out to be more of a Silly Two-and-a-half Hours, but it was nonetheless a fun diversion during an otherwise dreary day.

Let the silliness commence!

I wonder if we've got enough silly to fill all these hats?

.

Silly Hat Day starts out a little on the grumpy side.

Have a Happy, Twisted Valentine’s Day!

February 14, 2013 | By Brent Almond | MY 2 DADS, QUICKPIC

Click to view larger...if you dare.

I created this disturbing little Photoshop masterpiece on Valentine’s Day, probably the first or second year Papa and I were together. It features my much-less gray (but still gigantic) head on Papa’s bare-assed baby body. We always joked that this would be what our children would look like. Thank God we were wrong.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
